Les Gets

Les Gets is a small but lively village, situated in the Haute Savoie region of the French Alps. Formerly a small dairy farming community, Les Gets is now regarded as one of the best family skiing destinations in the Alps. It frequently features in the Daily Telegraphs top 10 family ski resort.

Les Gets is just an hour from Geneva airport, making it one of the most accessible alpine ski resort from the UK. Therefore you can get your holiday underway as soon as possible! If flying is not your favourite past time, you can reach the resort by car, in about 8 hours (with stops) from Calais. You can also access Les Gets via train, which stops in the nearby town of Cluses.

The village itself is very traditional with plenty of beautiful wooden chalets, typical of French alpine villages. This all adds to the charm and the feel of the resort. Les Gets has something to offer everyone all year round. There are the obvious snow sports and mountain biking. But also ice skating and activity workshops, as well as simply tasting the local cuisines and sampling the local night life.

Whether you're a complete beginner making those first tentative turns or a seasoned expert searching out challenging off piste lines, there is ddefinitely something for everyone.

The Les Gets ski area is shared with nearby Morzine and offers 120km of piste. Both skiers and snowboarders are well catered for with pistes ranging from green to black slopes and including video parks, boardercross, snow parks, child only pistes, freeride zones and plenty of easily accessed off piste.

If that isn't enough for you, the Portes du Soleil ski area offers a 600km of piste between France and Switzerland. This is the largest international ski area in the world with links to resorts including Chatel, Avoriaz and Champery. Here you will find the world renowned Swiss Wall, plunging 330m from the top of Avoriaz into the Swiss resort of Les Crossets, not one for the faint hearted!

Other Portes du Soleil highlights include the Burton Stash, a snow park constructed purely from wood which has features for all abilities, and most notably, the PDS circuit where you can visit 12 resorts in one day!

If skiing or snowboarding aren't for you, you can try your hand at ice skating, snow shoeing, parapenting, or even just chilling out in one of the resorts spa's for the day. You could even venture to Avoriaz's very own water park, Aquariaz!

Les Gets and the wider Portes du Soleil are also home to many festivals and events which take place throughout the winter. Ski Color, Rock the Pistes Festival and Snowboxx are just a few of the local events taking place this winter. If your holiday coincides with one of these they are really worth getting involved in and we will be happy to assist you with extra information and tickets as required.

In the summer the activities available are endless. There is so much to choose from, you'll be sure to have an action packed holiday, whether you enjoy mountain or road biking, hiking, climbing, swimming and more.

Part of one of the largest linked mountain bike areas in the Alps you won't be short of trails and tracks to explore. The area has also undergone extensive work over the last 3 years, which has seen Les Gets host the European leg of Red Bull's Crankworx world tour. Although it won't be here for summer 2019, you will instead get to enjoy the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup this July.

Road cyclists are also spoilt for choice in and around Les Gets and Morzine where among a vast amount of routes you can take on the Col de Joux Plane, a famous stage of the Tour de France which returned to the area in July 2016.

Anyone for Golf? That's right, Les Gets has it's very own par 70 golf course, complete with stunning views of Mont Blanc! Once the snow starts to melt in May, this challenging course emerges from beneath the pistes ready to punish all but the most accurate of players... We've heard rumours of golfers being found still  looking for balls in early January! There are also several other high quality courses under an hour from Les Gets.

Families are also well catered for in the summer months. As well as having child friendly cycling routes available the village has a large swimming lake complete with a water slide and an 'Adventure park' in the trees. There are also Tennis courts and horse riding activities available.

Of course, in the summer you aren't just restricted to the local area like you are in the winter. This means you can enjoy all that the surrounding area has to offer, whether that is swimming in Lake Geneva, strolling round the old village in Annecy or a day out at Lac Mines D'or ot the Gorges d'Diable.
